Daytime Support Service

Our Daytime Support Service is for young people who no longer need overnight supervision but still benefit from planned, consistent support during the day. It offers a step down from 24 hour provision, giving young people space to grow while knowing there is a trusted team around them during key parts of the day and someone to check in on how they are managing.

What This Service Provides
1

Planned Daytime Support

Support is focused around the times of day when young people need it most, such as mornings, after school and early evenings, so they are not left to manage key parts of the day entirely on their own.

  • Help to start the day with structure
  • Support around meals and daily tasks
  • Staff available during agreed hours
  • Clear plans for out‑of‑hours contact
2

Structured Daytime Activities

We use daytime sessions to build skills, confidence and positive use of time in and around the home and community, so young people can practice doing more for themselves with support close by.

  • Practical sessions like cooking and shopping
  • Support to attend groups or activities
  • Time for key work and goal planning
  • Practice skills in real situations
3

Daily Living And Independence Skills

Young people are encouraged to take more responsibility for their own routines while still having guidance and backup, so they can try things out, make mistakes safely and learn from experience.

  • Planning and preparing simple meals
  • Managing laundry and organisation
  • Using transport safely and confidently
  • Practising problem solving skills
4

Safeguarding And Risk Awareness

Even without overnight staff, safeguarding remains central to how we work, with clear plans in place so young people know how to stay safe and who to contact if they are worried or need help.

  • Clear daytime risk and safety plans
  • Agreed contact for out‑of‑hours help
  • Regular updates to professionals
  • Support to recognise unsafe situations

  • Morning support to stay on track
  • Help to plan travel and routines
  • Support to balance study and rest
  • Contact with schools or employers
6

Emotional And Practical Check Ins

Staff use daytime contact to check in on how young people are coping, notice changes early and offer practical and emotional support before difficulties build up or feel unmanageable.

  • Regular one‑to‑one check in time
  • Space to talk through worries
  • Support to plan evenings safely
  • Encouragement to use coping tools
7

Partnership With Families And Professionals

Where appropriate, we work alongside families, carers and professionals so that support is consistent, joined up and focused on what is most important for the young person at that time.

  • Agreed plans and clear shared roles
  • Regular updates to social workers
  • Young people involved in meetings
  • Open communication about progress
8

Step Down From 24 Hour Support

This service is often used as a planned step down from 24 hour supported living when risks have reduced and independence is growing, with a clear focus on preparing for the next stage.

  • Reduced night‑time staff presence
  • Support to manage evenings safely
  • Plans reviewed with the full team
  • Clear steps to independent living
What Young People Gain

More Independence With Support In Reach

Young people have space to make more of their own decisions while knowing that support is available during the day if they need advice, guidance or a check in.

Stronger Daily Routines

They develop healthier patterns around sleep, meals, education and self care that can be sustained over time and carried into more independent settings.

Improved Confidence And Skills

Through regular practice and encouragement, young people build the skills and belief in themselves they need to manage more of life on their own.

Readiness For The Next Step

Daytime support helps prepare young people for semi independent or independent living when everyone agrees the time is right and the right plans are in place.
